Why choose these Knurled Thumb Nuts

Our Knurled Thumb Nuts are precision-turned from stainless steel and finished with a deep diamond-pattern knurl on the outer wall, giving a firm grip for finger-tight installation and removal — no spanner or socket required. Ideal anywhere fittings need to be adjusted, removed and refitted frequently: jigs, fixtures, covers, model engineering, optical and electronic equipment, and bespoke joinery.

High type vs thin type

Two profiles are offered to suit different jobs:

  • High type (DIN 466) — a taller body that gives more thread engagement and a larger, easier-to-grip surface for higher hand torque. Use where the thumb nut is the primary fastener.
  • Thin type (DIN 467) — a low-profile body that sits flush against the work surface. Use where space is tight, or alongside a primary nut to act as a hand-adjustable locknut.

Sizes available

  • M3 / 3mm — light fixtures, electronics enclosures and instrument panels
  • M4 / 4mm — small fixtures, brackets and covers
  • M5 / 5mm — adjustable jigs, model engineering and trim
  • M6 / 6mm — general workshop and removable cover applications

Pack options

Each size and type is available as a 1-unit sample, or in packs of 2, 4 or 10. Use the variation selectors above to choose the exact combination you need.

Typical uses

  • Workshop jigs, fixtures and tooling — anywhere a hand-tight, no-tool adjustment is wanted
  • Equipment covers and access panels that need to be opened regularly
  • Optical, photographic and electronic equipment mounts
  • Model engineering, RC modelling and bespoke joinery

How to fit

Thread the nut onto a standard metric bolt or stud and tighten by hand using the knurled outer rim. For applications where the nut may loosen under vibration, pair a high-type thumb nut with a plain washer, or use a thin-type thumb nut as a finger-adjustable locknut against a primary nut.
